Making a Fist by, Naomi Shihab Nye
You must comment on at least one poem that was assigned last week. Your comment should be insightful, original, and develop conversation. If you aren't sure if your comment matches this criteria make another. A trite comment that can be made by anyone and is unoriginal is not worth credit. I challenge you to write something worth reading unlike anything you've written before.

I enjoyed this poem. It was the type of poem that painted a picture for me. I could actually picture the moments that the narrortor was going through. The narrortor learned that just because things were hard didn't mean that it was all that terrible
I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. it teaches young Americans how to make a fist and how to use it. I felt afterwards that I could do anything. I love making a fist.
ReplyDeleteIn this poem i feel like it is talking about how in life we all may go through some hard times but we stand and face the facts. It is hard to take what people say or what happens in life and just like blow it off. This poem describes me.I have a hard life believe it or not but you just have to take it and go on.You have to remember that life will always keep going you can't just sit there and feel sorry for yourself, you get back up. I feel the fist shows that you stand strong, the fist is strong. To end this poem is like the strugel of life and i know that it sure is so i love this poem.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young I thought Making a Fist was just on power rangers, but now that I have read and felt this poem penetrating my soul. It really describes hard times, and how finding a way to cope with it can really help you through anything. Her way of getting through her extreme hulk like anger is by making a fist, my way is watching a Chuck Norris movie with a torrential downpour in the background, while a small Asian child cries at his feet. Anger can be a breaking point for a lot of people, just look at Al Roker, anyway what I'm saying is this poem is showing you way through the path of life, helping you find a way to vent self frustration or intense anger towards anything. I believe that this poem has birthed a new Tucker Scott Heaton.
ReplyDeleteI must say, Tucker is God, or the spawn of God.
ReplyDeleteI really think this peom is awsome because it gave really good details and, helped you visualize the story in your in your head. it showed that life can be hard but will get better as time goes by.but all in all great story.

This poem was my favorite because
of its meaning. The reason for making a fist ,i believe, shows her that by doing so, she
knows that she is still living and she has the power so keep going through hard times. It shows that even though you are going through a hard time, you can make it through and eventually stand tall and proud that you did make it through the hard times you had experienced.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this poem. This poem really helped me imagine what was going on in the poem, and that's very difficult for many writing pieces to do since i have very little imagination. I felt that this poem has helped me calm down or hold my tongue. If somone is being ignorant, after this I just make a fist and hold myself back from yelling at the individual. This poem has also helped me get through a family problem in the time that we have read the poem (Personal, not able to share).
I like this poem because it talks about how different women take different appraoches towards handleing their problems. Some women like to curl up in a litte ball and hide, and some women like to ball up their fist and go head first to dealing with the problem.

I enjoyed the poem because I can relate. Every person at one point in their life has hardship. But no matter what it is we can always hold on and try our best no matter what.

I really like this poem. This poem is meant to say of what happen when having a hard life or hard times. I know how it is of haveing a hard time. But you go and fight your way through it. Then after you do that and achieve what you had to do and you move on only to face another problem. For me in the end i just experienced a lot of things. That i hope never happens again to me or anyone esle.

This poem was easy to get into and fun to read and listen to. I was able to understand how the narrator felt threw hos describing in the poem. And how the mother tried to get her child's attention off death by saying "when you can no longer make a fist.". Over all the poem was very insightful and was fun to read.
I would like to start out by saying a pharse most people would recognize fairly well, "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade." This means many things, what grips me is that with no matter what you are given in life you do with it what you can. So when you make a fist to distract yourself from what may bothering you, which conveys what the poem "Making A Fist Discussion" makes apperant, so i feel it describes life in a stupendous way!

ReplyDeleteKeep going and dont give up. So if something happend and it hurts real bad just suck it up and keep walking on the path your on. Because sooner or later something good will happen. Then all the bad things that happend will be for a good reason
