Jazz Fantasia & The Weary Blues

Jazz Fantasia by, Carl Sandburg & The Weary Blues by, Langston Hughes

You must comment on at least one poem that was assigned last week. Your comment should be insightful, original, and develop conversation. If you aren't sure if your comment matches this criteria make another. A trite comment that can be made by anyone and is unoriginal is not worth credit. I challenge you to write something worth reading unlike anything you've written before.

  1. One of my favorite poems was The Weary Blues. The way Mrs. Stansbury read it i could feel myself in the poem. The narrator is sad, but he likes being sad. I like that it is very jazzy, i feel like i want to snap my fingers or something. This poem would be a good poem to read while i was down or sad or something. It's sad but it makes you smile at the same time.

I think that this is one of the stories that you just have to put as much wild and crazy attitude into reading it as you can.I belive that that is always what happens with jazz stories especially jazz stories wih fights and steam boats.

  6. i personaly like Jazz Fantasia because it was very different. It was kind of incorperating the war in mi sence, if you think about it cause it was talking about druming, blowing on things and so much more. It may be talking about instraments but to me it is kind of talking about the war.

  18. I thought that Mrs. Stansbury was a bit funny in Jazz Fantasia by the way she made noises and changed the pitch of her voice to match what the lines were describing. She preformed it so well I felt I was there. It was so vivid, so naturally, I understood it very well.

When Mrs. Stansbury read The Weary Blues it sounded like I was actually there in front of the stage. She described the noises and the tones of the instruments. The Weary Blues made me look at life and see that when I was sad I could have been happy and pushed the sadness aside. Life is not always about being sad its about the good stuff.

  28. I like the poem "The Weary Blues," because Mrs. Stansbury made it semm as if the poem was visual not an audio piece. I felt as if i was there or it was happening right before me. The way she recited the poem in her on voice and tone along with the movements and gestures made again made it seem so well. The use of onomatopoeia made it a great poem..-A.GROOMS

  30. My favorite poem that was read to the class was Jazz Fantasia by, Carl Sandburg. The way Mrs. Stansbury read the poem was like it was happening in the room. The way she was reading and made all the noise affects and actions brought the poem to life. I don't personally like poetry, but the way Mrs. Stansbury was reading it made me want to listen and it caught my attention and there was never a dull moment in the poem while she was reading.

  37. Jazz Fantasia wasn't exactly a poem that spoke to me in a soulful way other poems reach me. This poem didnt reach me, but it was good. I don't have any relation with an instrument to have the feeling the poet has. The poem had good usage of similes and metaphors, making it easier for me to connect the authors instruments to feelings.
